Celebrating The Arrival of Spring

Celebrating The Arrival of Spring

After what felt like an unending winter, the first signs of spring are starting to show. I ventured out with my camera on a sunny Saturday in Nottingham and tried to capture the essence of spring in this blog post.

Last weekend happened to mark the beginning of the British Summer Time (BST), when our collective clocks go forward by an hour. It brings with it daylight that persists until 7pm. Ever since the end of October (when the opposite happens), I've been counting down the days to the arrival of Spring.

Now that it’s finally here, I thought I'd mark the occasion with a photo blog featuring some pictures to share some of the spring magic that I'm experiencing.

#1 Darkness To Lime Green Spring Light

#1 Darkness To Lime Green Spring Light

I love how this picture brilliantly captures the end of Winter and the dawn of Spring. The lime green leaves (representing Spring) pushing into the purply shrub (representing Winter). Nothing persists forever in life, even the gloomy winter days.

#2 New Leaves Chasing The Spring Sun

This shot is a nice segue to what it feels like now. Winter seems like a distant memory with people taking the clear blue skies for granted, forgetting about the dreary days they endured to get here.

#3 Roses In Bloom

#3 Roses On Bloom

The universal symbol of love. In this context, I'm expressing my love of spring with this natural bouquet that someone had lovingly nurtured over the years.

#4 Spring Flowers

#4 Spring Flowers

Another sight that we don’t often see during the harsh winter months. These beautiful flowers were nestled on a hedge along the road, perfectly placed to stop and stare.

#5 Dawn Of Spring Light

#5 Dawn Of Spring Light

The suns light creeps through the branches carrying a bunch of flowers. These branches were timidly peeking over a brick wall creating beautiful shadows on the pedestrian paths.

#6 Majestic Tree By A Road

#6 Majestic Tree By A Road

This unassuming tree was in bloom by a busy road. It was clearly much older than the man-made structures that surrounded it. Thankfully somebody made a decision to retain this beautiful tree instead of sacrificing it for 'progress' (i.e. another polluting lane of cars).

#7 Pink Blossoms On A Crisp Spring Day

#8 Pink Blossoms On A Crisp Spring Day

Once again, I'm dedicating the final piece to this post's pièce de résistance!

Sakura-esque blossoms have an almost magnetic allure to the eyes of people that pass by them. This lonesome tree was tucked away in a public garden proudly displaying it's beautiful pink blossoms. Sufficit to say it put a smile on my face just to have the privilege to stand next to it.
